Fossil Plants

Fossil plants are especially interesting, and can be fossilized just like any bone or animal! Coral, although technically an anthozoan, is on this section because they don't move around like most animals.

Fossil algae

  • Algae first appeared in the Precambrian, over 2 billion years ago!

Unknown Fossil Corals

  • Corals first appeared in the Cambrian over 500 million ago.

Fossil Horn Coral

  • Found in Ontario, Canada.
  • The Horn Coral now extinct.

Fossil Petrified Wood

  • As the name suggests, this wood was fossilized through petrifaction.
  • Petrified wood is important in knowing past weather events, as scientists can study the growth rings to estimate the seasons and weather changes these trees lived through. This is valuable in helping us understand climate change, and what signs earth might be giving us.

Fossil Fern

  • Ferns are approximately 400 million years old.
